Norse Robotics Kicks-off 15th Season
SBPS Robotics Team District Competition 2024

****

Suttons Bay High School FIRST Robotics (FRC) is gearing up for our 15th exciting year of hard work, discovery, collaboration, fun and success – none of which would be possible without encouragement from our community!  This season marks the 4th year that we have combined our team members with students from Suttons Bay, Lake Leelanau St. Mary and Northport.  We welcome all students in grades 9 - 12 to join in this learning experience.

This year we will brainstorm ideas, build prototypes, and construct a robot that utilizes some of the latest technology in the way of sensors, vision, and autonomous programming to compete in a challenge called “REEFSCAPESM”.   Our students get to experience and use hi-tech machining tools used to manufacture some of the parts used on the robot.  Our after-school program utilizes mentors (all volunteer) and runs October to May.  We meet during the off-season to learn new skills and experiment with new designs.  We also use this time to build support for STEM education and learning experiences within the community.  We begin a concentrated build and competition season starting in January that runs through April.   The High School FRC Team has been very competitive throughout the past fourteen seasons, winning many awards and competing at ten of the past twelve State Finals and three World Championships.  As such, we are very excited for the challenge of this upcoming season!

Our district competitions are at Lake City on February 28 – March 2 and at Traverse City Central on March 13 – 15.  If we place in the top third at the district competitions, we will earn an invitation to the State Championship held at SVSU in Saginaw on April 4 - 6

Supporting Norsemen Robotics

In order to maintain this program in our school, we rely on the support of our community.  No matter how big or small your contribution, you are giving students the opportunity to invent, learn, and apply their knowledge.  Listed below are ways that you can make a difference.

-**Become a Student Member: **Our build and competition season kick off in early January and we welcome any new students to become members this fall.  We have sessions throughout the school year.

-Become a Sponsor: We greatly appreciate any financial support that can be provided for us. These donations aid us in the costs of team registration, kits of robot parts, competition travel expenses, tools and equipment, t-shirts, and buttons.

**-Spread the Word: **As residents of Northern Michigan, we all know how quickly word spreads in a small town. Therefore, your public support for what we do can help raise awareness in our community.

If you are interested in learning more about our program, or simply would like to share your opinions or experiences with it, please contact us!
